Privacy
The AOH Online Archive (archive.aoh.com) is a free, fully public catalog operated by the Ancient Order of Hibernians. We designed it to respect your privacy: it sets no advertising or tracking cookies, shows no ads, and shares no data with advertising networks. This page explains the small amount of information the site does handle.
Analytics (no cookies, no consent banner)
We measure how the archive is used with self-hosted, cookieless analytics (Koko Analytics). Traffic statistics — such as page views and which pages are popular — are stored on our own server and are never sent to a third party. This analytics does not use cookies, does not fingerprint your device, and does not identify you, which is why the site needs no cookie-consent banner.
Links to holding repositories
The archive is a discovery tool: most entries link out to the library, university, or historical society that actually holds the material. When you click one of these external “finding aid” links, we count the click (as a simple, anonymous number, with no cookie and no personal data) so we can see which collections researchers reach most often. Once you follow a link, you leave archive.aoh.com and the destination site’s own privacy policy applies — we have no control over it.
The Contribute form
If you use our Contribute form to suggest a collection or report an error, we collect the name, email address, and message you provide. We use this only to review your submission and to reply to you. Submissions are emailed to the National Archivist and stored privately in the site’s administration area for follow-up; they are not published and are not used for any marketing. To reduce spam, the form uses a hidden “honeypot” field and, optionally, Cloudflare Turnstile — a privacy-friendly, cookieless human-verification check. When Turnstile is enabled, your browser contacts Cloudflare to complete that check; see Cloudflare’s privacy documentation for details.
Server logs and security
Like almost every website, our web server keeps standard access logs (for example your IP address, browser type, and the pages requested) for a limited time. These logs help us keep the site secure and diagnose problems. They are not used to build advertising profiles.
What we do not do
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
- We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
- We do not require an account, login, or membership to use the archive.
- We do not host a member-name index or any restricted, members-only content.
Your choices
Because our analytics is anonymous and cookieless, there is nothing tied to you personally to opt out of. If you have contacted us through the form and would like us to delete the message and contact details you sent, or if you have any question about this policy, please reach out to the National Archivist through the Contribute page.
